All Bootleg Records are listed ALPHABETICALLY! I'm doing this for two reasons; • There are many bootlegs out there with two or more different sources on them. So it doesn't make sense to me to list the Bootleg Records chronologically! Also it's easier to read & to find a Bootleg Record! • Also you will not find any personal opinion or the value of a bootleg on this list! It's only a list with all of the Metallica Vinyl Bootlegs! What's a "Bootleg"? A bootleg recording is an audio and/or video recording of a performance that was not officially released by the artist, or under other legal authority. The process of making and distributing such recordings is known as bootlegging. A great many such recordings are simply copied and traded among fans of the artist without financial exchange, but some bootleggers are able to sell these rarities for profit, sometimes by adding professional-quality sound engineering and packaging to the raw material. Bootlegs can consist of recordings of live performances, or material created in private or professional recording sessions. Changing technologies have had a great impact on the recording, distribution, and varying profitability of the underground industry. The copyrights for the song and the right to authorize recordings often reside with the artist, according to several international copyright treaties . The recording, trading and sale of bootlegs continues to thrive, however, even as artists and record companies attempt to provide "authorized" alternatives to satisfy the demand. Pirates; Pirates are illegal copies of recordings that are (or have been) available commercially or are planned/scheduled for commercial release. Most of the Pirates contain official material, but they are dissimilar to a official album in relation to cover artwork, company etc. For example: "The Good The Bad & The Ugly" record. Counterfeits & Official Boots; An illegally copied release is distinguished from a counterfeit . Counterfeits attempt to mimic the look of officially released product; illegally copied releases do not necessarily do so, possibly substituting cover art or creating new compilations of a group's released songs. A counterfeit is always an illegal copy but an illegal copy is not necessarily a counterfeit. For example: "Fade To Black - Promo", "Jump in The Fire - Testpress" & "Master Of Puppets - 7" Single". Semi-Official Releases; Semi-official releases are bootlegs in truth, but you can buy this record legally within the country of origin. For example: ".....And Justice For All - Live" record. Flexi Discs; The flexi disc (also known as a phonosheet or sonosheet ) is a phonograph record made of a thin, flexible vinyl sheet with a molded-in spiral stylus groove, and is designed to be playable on a normal phonograph turntable. Flexible records were commercially introduced as the Eva-tone Soundsheet in 1960, but were previously available in the Soviet Union as roentgenizdat or bones , underground samizdat recordings on x-ray film. Before the advent of the compact disc , flexi discs were sometimes used as a means to include sound with printed material such as magazines and music instruction books. A flexi disc could be molded with speech or music and bound into the text with a perforated seam, at very little cost and without any requirement for a hard binding. One problem with using the thinner vinyl was that the stylus's weight, combined with the flexi disc's low mass, would sometimes cause the disc to stop spinning on the turntable and become held in place by the stylus. For this reason, most flexi discs had a spot on the face of the disc for a coin, or other small, flat, weighted object to increase the friction with the turntable surface and enforce consistent rotation. If the turntable's surface is not completely flat, it is recommended that the flexi disc be placed on top of a full sized record.
